A 14-year-old boy is charged in connection with a shooting last week in McKees Rocks that stemmed from the victim refusing to give the boy and two others a cigarette, according to Allegheny County Police.

The shooting happened about 4:19 p.m. Saturday on Munson Avenue, Sgt. Todd Dolfi said. A man who had been shot in the hand and upper chest was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators believe the victim was walking home on a wooded path next to Munson Avenue when he was approached by three males, Dolfi said. The group asked the victim for a cigarette and, when he refused, a fight ensued. One in the group pulled a handgun and shot the man, who then ran for help, Dolfi said.

Police filed charges Thursday against the 14-year-old boy, and he was taken to the Shuman Center. Records for juveniles who are not charged as an adult are not public record, and police do not release their names.

Investigators are still working to identify the two other suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-255-8477.
