Could Carl be killed off in season 8? (Picture: AMC)

Warning: Contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season eight.

A producer from The Walking Dead has hinted Carl Grimes could be facing the chop in season eight.

While the opening episode left many speculating Carl’s father Rick could be killed off, producer David Alpert has sparked speculation Carl himself could be next to face the chop.

Asked about the line where Rick is told ‘your boy’s going to die’ in the season premiere, speaking to The Huffington Post, David said: ‘I think we’ve shown time and time again that everybody’s on the table, and that we’re the type of show [where] we don’t have a problem deviating from what the comic does.

‘We had people saying, “Oh, if Daryl dies, we riot.”

‘No, it’s like we hear you. We still get people petitioning us to bring Beth [Emily Kinney] back.

‘There are so many people that love Emily that want her back. That being said, everybody’s on the table, and where the story demands we go we’re gonna follow,’ he added.

Along with the clue above, some fans have highlighted another sequence from the premiere which potentially alludes to Carl’s death.

In a flash forward, Rick can be seen looking red and teary-eyed presumably after a traumatic event – could this be following his son’s death at the hands of Negan?

Fans also became concerned about Carl’s future last year, after actor Chandler Riggs was accepted into college to study sociology and psychology.

The actor however previously addressed the issue, saying how he’d love to continue with the show through his education.

Still, at least they’re getting the ‘riot’ memo about Daryl. Don’t you dare touch him.

You can catch The Walking Dead season 8 on AMC Sundays in the US, and on Fox Mondays in the UK at 9pm.
