2 killed in separate weekend MO crashes

(KAIT) - Two Missouri men died in separate weekend crashes in the Bootheel.

Missouri State Highway Patrol states the first crash happened at 5:21 p.m. Sunday in Dunklin County.

Caleb S. Wilcox, 18, of Holcomb died in the crash.

The crash report states Margarito Gallegos, 32, of Columbia, MO was driving south on Highway 153 just south of Holcomb when his 1995 Lincoln Continental crossed the center line and hit Wilcox's 2004 Ford Mustang head on.

Wilcox was airlifted to a Memphis hospital where he later died. Gallegos was taken by ambulance to a Kennett hospital with moderate injuries.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt, according to MSHP.

About three hours later, MSHP reported another fatal crash in Pemiscot County involving a moped.

Including the moped, five vehicles were involved in the crash on U.S. 412 just west of Missouri Highway 84.

MSHP states Eddie L. Spriggs, 42, of Kennett was driving his moped west when a 2003 Ford F-150 hit him. William Leedy, 37, of Coffeyville, KS was driving the truck.

A 1999 GMC Suburban and a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Levester Rhines, 38, of Kennett and Susie Armstrong, 36, of Caruthersville, respectively, then hit the moped.

The Grand Marquis slid into a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Christopher Moore, 41, of Wardell as the truck was stopped on the shoulder of the road, according to MSHP.

Spriggs was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the crash report.

Herman Sheperd, 54, of Caruthersville was riding in the Grand Marquis and was airlifted to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries.

Wanda Moore, 41, of Wardell along with two teenage passengers in the Silverado were taken by ambulance to a Hayti hospital with minor injuries.

All of those involved in the crash did have safety devices on, according to MSHP.
