West State Street in Wauwatosa could see the opening of a hot yoga and health club next spring.

Ripple Effect Fitness & Yoga is being proposed for 6318 W. State St. in a building formerly home to a furniture refinishing business. The fitness studio's request for a conditional use permit was recommended for approval by the Wauwatosa plan commission on Monday night, said Tamara Szudy, the city's principal planner.

The new gym would feature a 3,500-square-foot fitness studio-area for clients, as well as 1,100-square-foot room designated for hot yoga. According to city documents, Ripple Effect Fitness will offer group and appointment-only private training sessions, in addition to its yoga offerings and massage services.

To accommodate the new business, the front of the State Street building will undergo modifications, with an entirely new facade expected to be installed, said Szudy. Part of the building will be razed and replaced with a two-story building addition, she noted.

Tom Coleman, the applicant listed for Ripple Effect, could not be reached for comment. Szudy said construction is anticipated to begin on the building as soon as possible, with a spring opening in the works for the new fitness studio.

Proposed hours of operation are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday.
