Get set for state’s first scuba diving festival in Nov

Karnataka’s first ‘Scuba Diving’ festival will be organised in the second week of November at Netrani Island near Murudeshwar of Uttara Kannada district.

KARWAR: Karnataka’s first ‘Scuba Diving’ festival will be organised in the second week of November at Netrani Island near Murudeshwar of Uttara Kannada district. The ministry of tourism and sports will organise the event to promote the state as an adventure sports hub.

Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul told Express, “We have got permission for the scuba diving festival from concern departments and also we have chalked out events at the festival, after discussing the plans with district minister R V Deshpande we will finalise the dates.”

To boost tourism in coastal districts, the government has been organising adventure sports events in coastal districts including international level events like surfing festival, which was organised few months ago in Mangaluru and kayaking festival at Dandeli.

Sources said events that will create interest about the underwater world have been planned for the festival. Events like underwater photography of attracting fishes and rich coral, workshop on marine life, debris collection event, water sports equipment exhibition cum sale and discounted rate scuba diving opportunity will be held.
