CNN poll: Romney would now beat Obama (but not Clinton)

It looks like some people are having second thoughts about their presidential vote in 2012.

A new CNN/ORC International Poll says that, if the 2012 election where held today, Republican candidate Mitt Romney would defeat President Obama in the popular vote by 53%-44%.

Of course, when the actual election was held two years ago, Obama beat Romney by a margin of 51% to 47% in the popular vote (and by 332-206 in the Electoral College).

The new poll probably says more about Obama than Romney -- it also shows that the Republican would lose a theoretical 2016 match-up to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, by a margin of 55%-42%.

"Politically speaking, there is an interesting group of people who would not vote for Obama but would pick Clinton over Romney," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "It turns out that nearly seven in ten of them are women, and 56% are Independents."
