Five-day Yuvajanotsava begins in Gulbarga

Minister of State for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil has called upon the youth to inculcate positive attitude and believe in hard work and honesty to achieve success in life.

Inaugurating the five-day 14th Yuvajanotsava of the National Service Scheme (NSS) on the main campus of Gulbarga University here on Saturday, Mr. Patil described NSS as a role model for youth organisations as it had dedicated itself to instilling discipline and service motto among the youth. It was important to instil service motto and discipline into the minds of students right from their formative days so that they became model citizens of the country and contribute to the welfare of society.

Participation

“It is the duty of every citizen to participate in the development process of the country. The educated have a greater role in building an economically strong country,” he said.

In the development process, rural India should not be left behind. They should be made partners in development activities and the fruits of economic prosperity should be equally shared between the rural and urban people. While villages still occupied a major portion of the country’s geographical area, the benefits of economic prosperity should not be confined to urban pockets alone. “Without rural development, the country cannot achieve the desired goals of prosperity,” he said.

Public Relations Officer of the NSS in Karnataka Dhananjaya said that NSS was one of the biggest organisations in the world with 33 lakh members. Of them, three lakh were in Karnataka alone. The Karnataka NSS was doing a great job. Its work had been recognised nationally. The State NSS had bagged the best unit award in the country in 2012-13 and 2013-14, he said.

Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor E.T. Puttaiah presided.

About 200 students from 32 universities and their affiliated colleges are participating in the cultural and literary events.
