Gov. Martin O'Malley plays banjo in streets of Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md., May 27 (UPI) -- Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) was spotted enjoying his Memorial Day in cargo shorts and flip-flops, playing the banjo in the streets of Annapolis.

O'Malley was spotted on the City Dock with a six-string banjo and an open case where he was apparently accepting tips. The governor's aides have confirmed the authenticity of the photos, but did not disclose his motivation to hold the impromptu performance.

O'Malley is not just an average banjo player. He has been the frontman for a Celtic rock band, O'Malley's March, since he ran for Baltimore city council in the 90s. The band still plays several concerts a year, but has significantly limited its shows since O'Malley began running for governor in 2006.

O'Malley is allegedly considering a presidential run in 2016, but the concerts will probably have to end if he ends up in the White House.
