Sister Mary Jo's First Pitch Continues 'Sports Nun' Sensation

Sister Mary Jo Sobieck became a worldwide sensation after her ceremonial first pitch before the White Sox game in Chicago Saturday night.

CHICAGO, IL - Just when you thought the Chicago sports world's connection to Catholic nuns could not get any stronger, in comes Marian Catholic's Sister Mary Jo Sobieck. Sister Mary Jo stepped to the mound and followed a quick ball trick with a perfect strike while throwing out the first pitch before the Chicago White Sox' Saturday night game against the Kansas City Royals on "Marian Catholic Night" at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Just months after America fell in love with Sister Jean and her part of the Loyola University men's basketball team's Final Four run, the Marian Catholic nun has done one better. Her ceremonial first pitch is being called by many as the best of the current Major League Baseball season and by some as the best ever.

Sister Mary Jo is one of several Dominican sisters who operate Marian Catholic, the Northwest Indiana Times reported in a 2008 feature on her.
