WEATHER BLOG: Flooding concerns for some, finally drying out across SW-Kansas

8:45 a.m.

Rainfall amounts for the 24 hours ending at 7 A.M. range from 0.50" in Winfield to as much as 7.00" near Ulysses. Dodge City reported numerous streets flooding during the early morning hours Sunday. Two water rescues occurred between 1 A.M. and 3 A.M. on Wyatt Earp Blvd., where 3.72 inches of rain fell overnight in Dodge City. A report of 5.10" occurred 2 miles north of Dodge City. Wichita has picked up 0.33" of rain through 8 A.M.

Rain has ended across western Kansas, however heavy rain continues across parts of central and eastern Kansas this morning. Around 7 A.M. Emergency managers in Arkansas City reported a one hour "rainfall rate" of 3.62"/hour, while Hutchinson picked up 1.10 inches in just 1 hour. Scattered showers and thunder are possible through the afternoon, with a few severe storms possible over SE-Kansas.

10:30 p.m.

Storms in western Kansas will continue to move to the east overnight, into the Wichita/Hutchinson area by about 5-6 a.m. The threat for severe storms is low, but heavy rain will be possible. Around an inch of rain will be possible with isolated amounts slightly higher than that. Flooding could be a concern, especially to areas prone to flooding.

10 p.m.

Flash flooding concerns continue in southwestern, Kansas as storms linger.

There have been multiple reports of roads under water in Grant and Kearney Counties.

8:35 p.m.

Storm Team 12 says a brief multi-vortex tornado was reported by a storm chaser in northern Grant County at 7:54 p.m.

This storm is nearly stationary, so anyone in the line of the storm should stay in their safe place.

8:05 p.m.

A Tornado Warning has been issued for northeastern Grant County until 8:15 p.m.

This storm, capable of producing a tornado, is located about 5-10 miles northeast of Ulysses and it's nearly stationary.

7:25 p.m.

The Tornado Warning has expired for Greeley County, but storms continue to produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and heavy rain in southwestern Kansas.

These storms are nearly stationary, so flooding will be a concern.

7:15 p.m.

The Tornado Warning for southeastern Greeley County has been extended until 7:15 p.m.

The rotation, indicated on radar, is about 5-10 miles southeast of the city of Tribune, moving to the south at 30 mph.

6:20 p.m.

Meteorologist Sarah Fletcher says a Tornado Warning has been issued for Greeley County until 6:45 p.m.

The storm produced a brief tornado in northern Greeley County and now it is right over the Tribune area, heading to the south.

Residents in the Tribune area are encouraged to stay safely inside.

5:30 p.m.

Storms moving into Wallace County could produce 60 mph gusts and half dollar size hail. They continue to move into western Kansas this afternoon and the chance for strong to severe storms will continue into Saturday evening.

Tonight, showers and storms will move into western Kansas. These could produce large hail and damaging wind gusts in the evening. As the storms move to the east, overnight, the threat for severe weather will diminish. The chance for rain will move into central Kansas by about 4-5 a.m. Lows will drop into the 60s.

Tomorrow, off and on showers and storms will continue throughout the day. It will get cooler, with highs dropping into the upper 70s to lower 80s.

The chance for rain will come to an end for everyone Sunday night. Monday, it will be partly cloudy, breezy and mild. Highs will drop into the upper 70s for most.

We'll stay in the upper 70s to lower 80s through the middle of the week.

A few more showers and storms will be possible on Wednesday, but the chance for rain is low at this time.
