Security guards whisked Heidi Cruz out of a raucous Republican National Convention hall Wednesday night after Donald Trump supporters confronted her over her husband’s refusal to endorse the Republican nominee.

{mosads}Ken Cuccinelli, a former Virginia attorney general and a close Cruz confidant who was sitting with Heidi as her husband spoke, told reporters he saw Trump supporters accosting her.

“People behind her were getting very ugly and physically approaching her and [Cruz’s father] Rafael,” he said. “It was not a pretty situation, and the decision was instantly made to not talk to media and get immediately out of the arena.”

Cuccinelli said people from his state’s delegation too were “physically approaching her while yelling at her,” so he moved members of the media and delegates out of the way to help usher her out.

Delegates had warmly received the vast majority of Cruz’s speech but when it became clear he was not going to endorse Trump for president, the mood shifted. Delegates booed Cruz, shouting “endorse Trump” and “Lyin’ Ted,” the pejorative nickname that Trump gave Cruz during the primary campaign.
