Orrick man charged with making terroristic threat following lockdown at Hunt Midwest SubTropolis
Kevin Becknal, of Orrick, Missouri, faces a felony count for making a terroristic threat in connection with a three-hour lockdown Tuesday at Hunt Midwest SubTropolis.
According court papers filed Wednesday by Clay County prosecutors, Becknal, 45, allegedly said he had “45 bullets” and was going to “shoot people around here.”
Court papers said Becknal was recently fired from a business at SubTropolis. When he was fired, according to court papers, Becknal made statements to other employees that they were going to get shot.
Security called police after Becknal showed up Tuesday at the facility located at 8250 Underground Drive in Kansas City. A witness told prosecutors he and Becknal spoke for about 10 minutes when Becknal arrived. The witness told prosecutors that during the conversation Becknal said he had “45 bullets” and was going to “shoot people around here.”
The shooting never happened, and the witness told prosecutors that Becknal drove off. Security for the complex was contacted about the incident, and because Becknal’s location was unknown, a lockdown was ordered.
Police said hours after the incident, it was determined that Becknal left the complex and drove to Kansas. He was eventually arrested near 95th Street and Mission Road in Overland Park.
Becknal is being held at the Johnson County Detention Center. Clay County officials say no bond is set for his charge in Missouri. Becknal faces up to seven years in prison if he's convicted.
