The Westerlund Trio

3 p.m. July 19. Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway. Violinist Artur Kaganovskiy, along with his accomplished violist wife, Eszter Szilveszter, and Miho Zaitsu, a cellist, have formed the Westerlund Trio in honor of Peter Westerlund, one of the world's finest violin makers. The trio gave their debut concert at Lincoln Center in December and has been invited to perform at Carnegie's Zankel Hall and at many European summer music festivals. 'Safe at College' self-defense Sunday

3-5 p.m. July 19. First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Ave. This two-hour self-defense course is designed to enhance and build self-confidence, awareness and personal safety for young women who will be going to college this fall. Beach clean-up

The League of Protectors will host a beach clean-up on Tybee Island, on July 19. All ages are welcome to attend. We will meet around 10:30-11 a.m. at the Tybee Pier Pavilion so that we can beat the heat and tourist traffic. Gloves, bags, and water will be provided. The Tybee Marine Science Center is also giving away a prize pack to all kids who participate.

Canoe Camp

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20-24. Ogeechee Outpost Canoe Camp 2015 is a day camp, Monday-Friday. Lunch is provided. Campers will be learning about the history of the Ogeechee River and will follow a master naturalist through parts of the Ogeechee Watershed to learn about our native plants and animals. This camp gives instruction in canoeing and kayaking taught by ACA-trained canoeing instructor and camp director Connie Shreve. We participate in community service and instill water safety and river etiquette, teaching kids to be lifetime stewards of their environment. Poverty Matters to Whole Foods Market

On July 21, Whole Foods Market, located at 1815 E. Victory St., will donate 5% of their sales to Step Up Savannah. Step Up Savannah is a nonprofit organization that works collaboratively to reduce poverty in Savannah. The funds will be used to support programs that create opportunity for low-income families such as workforce training, neighborhood leadership training, and financial education. There were will be activities throughout the day and the Step Up team will be available to answer questions and distribute materials about the organization.

Jam and Preserves Workshop

Rape Crisis Center Free Support Group

6-7 p.m. Wednesdays through July 29. The Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire will offer a free eight-week support group for adult victims of rape and sexual assault. The support group will focus on adult individuals who have had some therapy prior to attending the group. Massie Girl Scout Days

9 a.m. to noon. July 25. Massie Heritage Center, 207 E. Gordon St. July 25 features the Girl Scout Georgia's Native Peoples program. Participants will learn about the Muscogee and Cherokee Indians of Georgia as they create clay effigies or pottery, hear traditional stories, play native games and tour all of the exhibits at the Massie Heritage Center, including the Native American room with authentic artifacts. Depending on the level of the scout, students may also cook cornbread and plant seeds or learn about the Trail of Tears and take a walking tour to see the gravesite of Tomochichi, the Mico (leader) of the Yamacraw Indians. They will also be earning the "Georgia's Native Peoples" Brownie Try-It Badge or Junior Badge and will have several items to bring home. The cost is $15 per participant and leaders are admitted free. Nestor Cup Bicycle Races

The Savannah Wheelmen host a series of criterium races ending July 26. Weeknight races are at the Georgia Tech campus off Jimmy Deloach Parkway and Sunday races are at Hutchinson Island. The weeknight "A" race is for Category 1, 2, 3; the "B" race for Category 4, 5 (beginners). The Sunday morning races have more categories for age groups. USA Cycling licenses are required of all participants. These races are sanctioned by USA Cycling. Competition waivers and proper equipment (approved road bikes, helmets, etc.) are also required. SAT Prep For Critical Reading, Vocabulary, And Writing

This one-week (5 day) series focuses on strategies used in active reading that pertain specifically to the SAT, and addresses writing strategies used on possible topics during the writing portion. Basic Gun Safety Class

Chatham County Sheriff's Office firearms instructors offer a basic gun safety class for Chatham County civilians on the third Saturday of every month from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The tuition is $25. Honor Flight Savannah is offering WW II and Korean War era veterans living in southeast Georgia and southeastern South Carolina an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to visit their war memorials.
