The Hawaii Food & Wine Festival is cooking up two gourmet events to kick off its ninth year, April 25th & 26th.

Chef Mark “Gooch” Noguchi joined Living808 to prepare the dish he will make as part of the #HFWF19 launch called No Borders, a 10-chef grand tasting at The Kahala Hotel & Resort, happening on Friday, April 26.

Tickets for this grazing style event are $150, with general admission entry at 6pm.

Guests can experience dishes by Noguchi and eight of Hawaii’s best chefs who will craft bites inspired by the traditional cuisines that make up Hawaii’s own unique, seamless culinary landscape.

The special guest chef will be “Top Chef Masters” winner Rick Bayless, the selected culinary hero.

The seven-time James Beard Award winner was instrumental in introducing traditional Mexican cuisine to the United States in the 1980s.

His own mission mirrors that of the non-profit Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, as a champion of sustainable agriculture and culinary education.

Bayless will also headline a five-course menu with wine pairings “Culinary Heroes Honoring Rick Bayless, Culture: One Plate at a Time” on Thursday, April 25 at Ka Ikena Lauae at Kapiolani Community College.

He will be joined by Hawaii’s James Beard Award–winning chefs George Mavrothalassitis, Alan Wong, and Roy Yamaguchi in preparing a five-course menu with wine pairings.

Tickets to the Culinary Heroes dinner are $350.

The themes and talent for the fall festival will be revealed at the April 26th launch event.

More than 120 celebrated chefs, winemakers, and mixologists will team up for the state’s largest foodie event, the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, from October 5-27 on the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island.

Since its start in 2011, the Festival has raised more than $2.5 million for culinary education and agriculture.
