WEST TEXAS LAKE CONDITIONS

AUSTIN - Here is the weekly fishing report for selected Texas lakes as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. (reports for other Texas lakes can be found in this story at lubbockonline.com.)

ALAN HENRY: Water stained; 68-73 degrees; 9.99 feet low. Black bass are fair on flukes, Senkos and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair to good on jigs under a slip cork. Catfish are fair on chartreuse (use Worm-Glo) nightcrawlers.

ARROWHEAD: Water off color; 67-71 degrees; 19.37 feet low. One ramp open and few anglers have been on the lake.

BROWNWOOD: Water stained; 66-70 degrees; 12.71 feet low. Black bass to 7 pounds are excellent on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and Shaky Head and Bass Hogg jigs in 4-10 feet. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are excellent on minnows, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits in 2-6 feet. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are slow. Blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.

COLORADO CITY: 23.36 feet low. No report available.

FORT PHANTOM HILL: Water clear; 66-71 degrees; 16.06 feet low. Black bass are fair on chatterbaits, flukes and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair to good on jigs and live minnows in 2-8 feet. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers.

GREENBELT: 44.21 feet low. No report available.

HUBBARD CREEK: Water off color; 66-71 degrees; 31.23 feet low. Black bass are fair to good on shallow running crankbaits, Texas rigs and chartreuse or white spinnerbaits. Crappie are fair to good on jigs and minnows. Catfish are fair to good on nightcrawlers and live shad.

POSSUM KINGDOM: Water fairly clear; 66-72 degrees; 13.94 feet low. Black bass are fair to good on spinnerbaits, Texas rigs, weightless Senkos and finesse jigs. CENTRAL

BASTROP: Water stained; 67-71 degrees. Black bass are fair on dark soft plastics, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are fair on stinkbait, shrimp, and minnows. Yellow catfish are slow.

BELTON: Water murky; 63-67 degrees; 11.55 feet low. Black bass are good on Rat-L-Traps and spinnerbaits. Hybrid striper are good on spoons. White bass are fair on minnows and Li'l Fishies. Crappie are excellent on minnows around structure under lights at night. Channel and blue catfish are good on hot dogs. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines and throwlines baited with live perch.

BUCHANAN: Water murky; 64-68 degrees; 31.66 feet low. Black bass are good on hard jerkbaits, JDC RocKraw trailers, and black/blue Whacky Sticks on jigheads along ledges in 12-20 feet. Striped bass are fair trolling crankbaits and drifting live bait in 20-30 feet. White bass are fair on Pirk Minnows, Shad Raps, and live bait. Crappie are good on minnows over brush piles. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

CANYON LAKE: Water murky; 64-68 degrees; 10.60 feet low. Black bass are good on brown Curb's hair jigs, JDC drop shot worms, and Scoundrel worms along break lines and ledges in 15-25 feet. Striped bass are good vertically jigging Pirk Minnows and Spoiler Shads. White bass are fair on ¼-oz. Blade Baits in 40 feet. Smallmouth bass are good on JDC smoke/red flake tubes, tomato red curl tail grubs, and tomato red drop shot worms over rock piles in 12-25 feet. Crappie are fair on minnows and white tube jigs upriver. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

COLEMAN: Water clear; 62-66 degrees; 19.53 feet low. Black bass are fair on soft plastics and Rat-L-Traps. Hybrid striper are good on slabs and spoons. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles. Channel catfish are good on stinkbait and cut bait. Yellow catfish are slow.

FAYETTE: Water stained. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Senkos, flukes, and soft plastics. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, nightcrawlers, and stinkbait.

GRANBURY: Water murky; 63-67 degrees; 7.08 feet low. Black bass are good on chartreuse/black soft plastics and Rat-L-Traps over grass. Striped bass are fair on silver striper jigs. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows and black tube jigs. Catfish are slow.

GRANGER: Water murky; 62-66 degrees; 0.23 feet high. Black bass are fair on watermelon jigs and Rat-L-Traps in timber. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows upriver at night. Blue catfish are fair on cut bait in 10-20 feet. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live bait.

LBJ: Water stained; 63-67 degrees; 0.32 feet low. Black bass are good on chartreuse Curb's jigs and watermelon red tubes. Striped bass are fair on silver slabs. WHITNEY: Water murky; 63-67 degrees; 9.05 feet low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are fair on silver spoons and striper jigs. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows and blue tube jigs. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and stinkbait.

NORTHEAST

ATHENS: Water lightly stained; 64-68 degrees; 0.48 feet high. Black bass are fair on Flukes and Senkos. Crappie are good on minnows. Catfish are fair on trotlines and cut shad.

BOB SANDLIN: Water murky; 63-67 degrees; 0.35 feet high. Black bass are good on Texas rigged creature baits and hollow body frogs Crappie are good on minnows. White bass are good on minnows. Catfish are good on trotlines and cut shad.

BONHAM: Water stained, 64-68 degrees; 0.13 feet low. Black bass are fair on crankbaits, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, jigs and soft plastics. Crappie are fair on minnows around bridges and boat docks. Catfish are fair with cut bait around creeks.

BRIDGEPORT: Water stained, 63-67 degrees; 24.00 feet low. Black bass are good on Reaction Innovation Flirt worms on shakyheads. Crappie are good on minnows. White bass are good on slabs and minnows. Hybrid striper are fair on slabs. Channel catfish are fair on trotlines. Call ahead as lake access is becoming severely limited.

CADDO: Water stained to muddy; 64-69 degrees; 2.30 feet high. Black bass are good on bladed jigs and bluegill pattern swim jigs. White and yellow bass are fair on slabs. Catfish are fair on cut shad and trotlines.

CEDAR CREEK: Water stained to muddy; 64-69 degrees; 0.13 feet high. Black bass are good on squarebill crankbaits and Texas rigged creature baits in green pumpkin. White bass are good on minnows and slabs. Hybrid striper are good on minnows. Crappie are good on jigs. Catfish are good on prepared bait and trotlines.

COOPER: Water stained, 63-67 degrees: 1.74 feet low. No report available.

FAIRFIELD: Fishing has been slow since the fish kill in September of 2010. TPWD has discontinued stocking the lake after another kill in early September 2011. Redfish and black bass survived the kill in limited numbers.

FORK: Water stained; 64-69 degrees; 2.03 feet low. Black bass are good on weightless soft plastics, swimbaits and hollow body frogs. White and yellow bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows. Catfish are good on trotlines and prepared bait.

AMISTAD: Water murky; 65-69 degrees; 28.65 feet low. Black bass are good on crankbaits, jerkbaits, soft plastics, and jigs. Striped bass are fair on slabs, small crankbaits, and spoons. White bass are good on slabs, small crankbaits, and minnows. Crappie are fair on live minnows up Devil's River in the trees. Catfish are fair on cheesebait, shrimp, and nightcrawlers over baited holes. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch. Everyone in a boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not.

BRAUNIG: Water stained. Black bass are good on crankbaits and dark soft plastic worms in the reeds and near the jetty and dam. Striped bass are good on liver and shad near the pier. Redfish are fair down rigging silver spoons near the jetty and dam. Channel catfish are very good on liver, shrimp, cheesebait, and cut bait. Blue catfish are good on cut bait in 15-20 feet.

CALAVERAS: Water stained. Black bass are good on dark soft plastic worms and crankbaits in reed beds. Striped bass are very good on cut perch and shad along the shoreline. Redfish are fair down rigging silver spoons near the dam in 15-20 feet. Channel and blue catfish are very good on live bait, shrimp, and prepared bait near the railroad trestle. Yellow catfish are slow.

CHOKE CANYON: Water stained; 64-68 degrees; 27.83 feet low. Black bass are good on chartreuse crankbaits and Texas rigged watermelon soft plastic lizards. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs under lights at night. Drum are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on punchbait. Yellow catfish are good on live bait.

COLETO CREEK: Water murky; 74 degrees in main lake, offline at hot water discharge; 0.45 feet high. Black bass to 8 pounds are good on spinnerbaits and crankbaits. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and white tube jigs at Coletoville Bridge in 10-12 feet. Channel and blue catfish to 14 pounds are good on live perch and cut bait in 8-10 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.

FALCON: Water murky; 63-67 degrees; 22.23 feet low. Black bass are good on watermelon red Brush Hogs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. GIBBONS CREEK: Water clear. Black bass are fair on watermelon red and green pumpkin soft plastics and crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on frozen shrimp, nightcrawlers, and stinkbait.

HOUSTON COUNTY: Water stained; 69-73 degrees; 0.55 feet high. Black bass to 7 pounds are good on chartreuse shallow running crankbaits and watermelon soft plastic worms. Smallmouth bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on live minnows around brush. Bream are fair on live worms. Channel and blue catfish to 12 pounds are good on live worms. Yellow catfish are slow.

LIVINGSTON: Water fairly clear; 64-68 degrees; 0.72 feet high. Black bass are very good on green pumpkin Rat-L-Traps and soft plastics. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows. Blue catfish are good on shad. Yellow catfish are slow.

SAM RAYBURN: Water murky; 63-67 degrees; 4.00 feet high. Black bass are fair on Carolina rigged watermelon red soft plastics and Rat-L-Traps. White bass are fair on live minnows and silver spoons. Crappie are fair on minnows. Bream are good on worms. Catfish are good on frozen shrimp, live minnows, and stinkbait.

COASTAL

NORTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good on the Louisiana shoreline on topwaters and Corkies. Flounder are fair on jigs tipped with shrimp around marsh drains.

SOUTH SABINE: Sheepshead, speckled trout, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on live shrimp. Trout are fair to good on the reefs on live shrimp and Down South Lures.

BOLIVAR: Trout are fair to good on the south shoreline on soft plastics and plugs. Black drum and redfish are good at Rollover Pass.

TRINITY BAY: Trout are fair for drifters working pods of shad and mullet on Gulps and live shrimp under popping corks. Freshwater has inundated most of the north end of the bay.

EAST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are good on the south shoreline on topwaters and Gulps. Whiting and sand trout are good on the edge of the Intracoastal on fresh shrimp. Black drum are fair to good in the Ship Channel on crabs.

WEST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are fair to good for drifters working shell on live shrimp. Trout, sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on shrimp and croakers. Redfish are good in the back lakes on shrimp and Gulps.

TEXAS CITY: Redfish are fair to good in Moses Lake on shrimp. Trout are fair on shrimp and croakers on the reefs.

FREEPORT: Trout are fair at San Luis Pass on live bait. Sand trout, trout, redfish and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the reefs in Christmas Bay and at the jetties.

EAST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are good on the reefs on live shrimp and Gulps. Trout are fair for drifters in the back lakes on live shrimp. Redfish are good while drifting around the tripod.

WEST MATAGORDA BAY: Redfish are fair to good in Oyster Lake on shrimp and crabs. Black drum and redfish are fair to good at the jetty on crabs. Redfish and black drum are good while wading with live shrimp on the south shoreline.

PORT O'CONNOR: Trout and redfish are fair to good on the reefs in San Antonio Bay on live shrimp. Trout and redfish are fair for drifters working the back lakes with live shrimp. Trout and redfish are good at the jetty on croakers and mullet.

ROCKPORT: Trout are fair to good in Morris-Cummings Cut on free-lined shrimp. Black drum are good in the Lydia Ann Channel on crabs. Redfish are fair to good on the Estes Flats on mullet and crabs.

PORT ARANSAS: Redfish are fair to good at East Flats on gold spoons and small topwaters. Black drum are good in the Shrimpboat Channel on crabs and finger mullet. Redfish, trout and sheepshead are fair to good at the jetty on shrimp.

CORPUS CHRISTI: Trout are fair to good on the edge of the spoils on Gulps and live shrimp. Black drum and redfish are fair to good in the Packery Channel on crabs.

BAFFIN BAY: Trout are fair to good while wading grass on topwaters, Bass Assassins, Gamblers and Down South Lures. Black drum are good in the Land Cut on crabs.

PORT MANSFIELD: Trout are fair to good on topwaters around sand and grass on She Pups and Super Spook Jrs. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes on Gulps under popping corks and while wading near the islands.

SOUTH PADRE: Trout are good around the spoil islands and channel drops on DOA Shrimp, Gulps and live shrimp. Black drum, redfish and jack crevalle are good at the jetty on mullet and shrimp.

PORT ISABEL: Trout and redfish are fair to good on the flats on live shrimp and Gulps under a popping cork. Redfish are fair in South Bay on DOA Shrimp, Gulps and live shrimp.
