After his market-unfriendly decision to scrap a partially-built $13bn Mexico City project, which roiled markets, Mexico’s incoming President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador has appointed a group of prominent business leaders to form an advisory council.

In a message on Twitter, Mr López Obrador said that chief of staff Alfonso Romo, himself a businessman, had helped connect him with the executives and “we’re going to keep calling on others”.

Mr López Obrador enjoyed good relations with business leaders when he was mayor of Mexico City from 2000-05, and with telecoms mogul in particular. He takes office on December 1.

Media moguls were prominent on the new council: Ricardo Salinas Pliego of Grupo Azteca, Bernardo Gómez of Televisa and Olegario Vázquez Aldir of Grupo Imágen.

The other members are Carlos Hank González, of Banorte; Sergio Gutiérrez of DeAcero; Miguel Rincón of Bio-Pappel; Daniel Chávez de Vidanta and Miguel Allemán of Interjet.
