Yellow reflects more of the light that hits it than any other colour. In bright sun, this can produce a dominant effect that can be off-putting, and yet yellow is the favourite colour of many designers.
One of the most dramatic ways to use it is to embrace its audacity and use a large-scale block of mustard yellow, perhaps Rudbeckia, in a small space. For a more subtle approach, shades of lemon yellow, or blooms that fade from a butter-yellow centre out to cream, are far easier to accommodate by virtue of the amount of white in the mix. Another tempting way to add a splash of sunshine to your garden is to use not yellow, but white flowers with supersized anthers, or a yellow
