'Exciting' plans lay in wait for the cherished tea-bar at Nuneaton's hospital.

At one point the future of the much-loved League of Friends cafe looked uncertain because the George Eliot Hospital was contemplating bringing in an outside firm to run it.

When the tea bar's future was under-threat, almost 1,500 people signed a petition to support the League of Friends which has, since 1955, raised millions of pounds to help buy equipment the hospital could not afford from its stretched budget.

But not only was the cafe was saved - it was promised a new look.

The pandemic forced the tea bar to close and now an update has now been given to the 'Eliot's board members.

Kirstie Webb, estates capital project manager at the hospital, explained there had been delays, but the refurbishment works are due to start soon and it was 'very exciting'.

"It was going really going well, then the contractor developed Covid," she said.

"The contractor is back on board - hopefully work will commence soon. Things are looking really good, it is very exciting."
