OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — An Overland Park Police officer was injured on Sunday after his patrol car was struck by another vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to authorities, shortly before 9:00 a.m. the unidentified officer was standing outside of his car during a routine traffic stop near 151st Street and Stearns when another vehicle ran into the back of the officer’s patrol car.

The collision sent the patrol car crashing into the officer, pinning him between the patrol car and the stopped car.

The officer was transported to a local hospital with broken bones. The injuries are described as non-life threatening. There were no other injuries reported in the accident.

The accident is being investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
