Rowdiness Continues A Year After Cancellation Of Late Night Ferry

Several videos obtained by Patch show physical fights breaking out either by the Fire Island ferry or by the docks in Bay Shore.

BAY SHORE, NY - Despite canceling the late night ferry between Fire Island and Bay Shore, drunken, rowdy passengers are causing more problems then ever for Fire Island Ferries.

Last year, just before the start of the summer season, Fire Island Ferries announced that the 1 a.m. ferry leaving Ocean Beach was discontinued.

Officials did not give a reason why the ferry was discontinued in the statement, but it has been speculated that the last ferry of the night attracted a number of drunk, rowdy customers.

The policy did not change for this summer, but the drunk, violent behavior from passengers appears to have continued with a vengeance.

According to Suffolk Police, officers were called to Maple Avenue in Bay Shore where the stop for the Fire Island ferry is located a total of 33 times between May and July.
