SINGAPORE -- The issue of leadership succession has become a matter of greater urgency in Singapore, after messages of concern were released by prominent ministers over the turn of the year.

An early settlement as to who will take over from the country's third Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who has been in power since 2004, is now considered one of the city-state's most pressing challenges.
