West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for about 20 customers on Doc Bailey Road in Cross Lanes.

The advisory comes after a water main break that crews are working to repair. Customers are being advised to boil their water before consumption until further notice.

Water used or drinking, cooking bathing and brushing teeth should be brought to a full boil for at least one minute then allowed to cool before use.

West Virginia American Water recommends the following:

Throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water;

Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;

Provide pets with boiled water after cooling;

Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water;

Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.

After the system recovers, West Virginia American Water said it will be collection additional water quality samples in the area of the outage. Those samples will be analyzed over the course of 24 hours, and customers will be notified when the advisory can be lifted.
