AUSTIN -- Junior linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch has been diagnosed with a minor neck strain following a car crash on Tuesday, Texas officials announced Thursday. McCulloch is considered day-to-day.

Texas coach Tom Herman announced Tuesday night after practice that McCulloch had been involved in a single-car accident during the day and was experiencing neck soreness.

Herman said McCulloch hydroplaned with his car and hit a light pole. Austin has experienced bad weather this week with a cold front and steady rain, which has made roads a little more treacherous. McCulloch was treated at the scene and then went to the hospital before eventually being released.

"All early indications is that he should be OK," Herman said Tuesday.

McCulloch received a CT scan as a precaution. He has 15 total tackles this season.

Herman also gave an update Tuesday on sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who suffered a first-degree sprain of the AC joint in his throwing shoulder on the first drive of Saturday's 23-17 win over Baylor that knocked him out of the game.

Herman said Ehlinger is being treated three times per day and is "progressing pretty much right on schedule."

"Pain is way down, range of motion is up," Herman said.

Herman said the plan is for Ehlinger to start throwing Thursday and gauge how his shoulder feels.

"We'll progress him throughout the weekend," Herman said. "I think the goal is for Sunday's practice to really see if he can get out there and do everything."

No. 7 Texas (6-1, 4-0 Big 12) is off Saturday with a bye week, but faces Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Oct. 27. Herman said there will be light game plan installation this week. He said he expects to have a better feel for who his starting quarterback at Oklahoma State is going to be, whether that's Ehlinger or junior Shane Buechele, by Sunday or Monday.
