UPDATE: Four people were injured when the minivan they were in struck a semi-tractor at an entrance ramp to a scale on I-80, just north of the interchange with I-88.
The crash occurred about 4 p.m., Thursday.
A 2005 Dodge minivan, driven by Kelsey L. Sterling, 31, of Colona, Ill., was headed west on Interstate 80 near milemarker 2 when it exited the interstate for unknown reasons onto the scale entrance ramp, according to preliminary information from Illinois State Police.
The minivan struck the back of a stopped semi-trailer with the front of the minivan. The impact trapped the minivan driver and an 8-year-old boy. Once extricated, both were flown to Iowa City with unknown injuries. The two other occupants of the minivan were transported to Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, where they were treated and released to their father.

The driver of the semi, Ilia I. Iliev, 67, Crystal Lake, Ill., was not injured in the crash.
Port Byron Fire, Rock Island Sheriff’s Department, Medforce, and Illinois State Police responded to the scene.
I-80 west was shut down intermittently throughout the extrication and recovery of this crash site. The scene was cleared at approximately 6:20 p.m.
This crash remains under investigation.
The Illinois State Police are asking motorists to avoid westbound Interstate 80 north of the intersection with Interstate 88 because of a collision with serious injuries.
The crash is near Mile Marker 2,according to the state police. Authorities are on scene and the westbound lanes may be closed periodically.
