VANCEBORO, N.C. (WNCT) – The Swift Creek has completely submerged this neighborhood on Streets Ferry Road in Vanceboro.

Michelle Dubiel of Vanceboro said this is not the first time, and it probably won’t be the last.

“We’re all sick of it,” Dubiel said.

Streets Ferry Road residents are doing their best to save as much as they can as fast as they can before the water rises even higher.

“Floyd went to the top of the red on that stop sign,” Dubiel said. “If that gives you an idea of how much more water we’re going to get.”

Residents are going back and forth by boat to gather their belongings.

“Well the main concern is just losing everything that you’ve ever worked hard for,” said Dubiel.

She has lived on the road her entire life, and said she can’t bear the thought of losing her home and everything she loves.

“It means the world to me,” Dubiel said. “It was my grandparents and passed down through generations, and that’s the way it’s going to stay if the good lord’s willing and the creek don’t rise and wash away.”

Residents said as the water continues to rise the priority to get out as much as they can, and for residents with houses on stilts, they just hope the water does not get that high.
