Bill Cowher has always had a strong foundation of excellence, playing hard-nosed football and competing at a championship level. Sometimes when things get really out of hand with professional football team, the best of the best is needed to help them bounce back. The New York Jets will be making some huge changes, especially at head coach in hopes turning things around in the future. Could Cowher be exactly what the Jets need to start becoming contenders again?
It would take a whole lot to convince Cowher to come back to coaching, but given the right situation, anything is possible. Owner Woody Johnson is expected to clean house once the season is over, most likely removing head coach Rex Ryan, GM John Idzik and plenty more to start everything from scratch. It’s the only way to make sense of the terrible season the Jets put up this year.
Cowher was almost brought in back in 2009, but it never came to fruition. At the time, Johnson fired Eric Mangini and was looking to bring Cowher in to bring stability back into the franchise. This time around, hopefully there’s some kind of deal that would make both sides happy.
It would take a whole lot to bring Cowher back into the coaching spotlight. He’s clearly doing well in life after coaching, but he’d be able to hand-pick his staff with the Jets, and it would be a very appealing situation for any coach.
Change is coming, and Cowher would be the best replacement head coach for the Jets considering his track record. He could be exactly what the Jets need heading into 2015 and beyond.
