Holby City’s new autumn trailer has just been released. It promises new faces, the return of some old faces and some heart-stopping drama. The John Gaskell storyline looks like it’s coming to a head, with Jac Naylor once again facing surgery and the possibility she might die.

Sacha is still battling his depression, with a little help from his friends. There’s a new F1, we meet a member of Zav’s family and there’s the welcome return of Mo Effanga, Frieda Petrenko and Guy Self. All this and a terrifying runaway lift. Here are all those spoilers examined in full:

Is Gaskell out of control?

There’s a tantalising glimpse of Roxanna, Hanssen and, presumably, Gaskell when they first met as students. It looks like we’re going to find out more about their relationship, where their loyalties lie and what drives Gaskell. Back in the present, we see Hanssen telling Gaskell that he has ‘doubts about everything’. Is he going to intervene to stop Gaskell doing any more damage?

Jac faces death

Once more we see a distraught Jac Naylor facing the real possibility that she might be about to die and leave Emma without a mother. She tells Gaskell he has to take the implant out of her, ‘And when I awake, you will be gone,’ she says. But will he? And more importantly, will she wake up?

Xavier’s granddad

A patient is revealed to be Xavier’s granddad. Will we find out more about Xavier’s troubled past? And will his granddad and Fletch’s ever meet up for a grandfatherly bonding session?

Sacha is ‘broken’

The lovely Sacha is back, but still struggling with depression. We see him in tears, but it looks like he’s taken up boxing in an effort to try to deal with things. And in a lovely scene we see Jac offering help to her ‘best friend in the world.’

Old faces return

It’s been fairly common knowledge for a while that Mo Effanga (Chizzy Akudolu) would be returning, and we caught a glimpse of Frieda Petrenko (Olga Fedori) in the summer trailer and guessed we’d be seeing her again soon too. Mo and Frieda both appear in the trailer, so we can look forward to Darwin being more lively than it has been of late.

Guy is back, but why?

What was more of a surprise was the appearance of Guy Self (John Michie) in this trailer. Last time we saw Selfie he was struggling with his own demons after wrecking Ollie’s and Zosia’s wedding. So what’s brought him back to Holby? And is he a changed character this time or can we expect more of his manipulative ways?

Temptation for Serena?

There’s a new F1 on AAU. She’s attractive and confident and she seems to have her eye on Serena Campbell. Serena looks slightly alarmed by her attention – but will she be tempted? Could this spell the first real test for Berena?

Baby talk

Lofty and Dominic are talking about babies! Will we soon be hearing the pitter patter of tiny Dofty feet?

Jac and Fletch

Jac doesn’t seem very impressed by Steven Fletcher. But does she still have feelings for his son?

High drama!

There are shocks in store (Picture: BBC)

There’s some nail-biting tension in store, including a lift containing Lofty, Meena and the new F1 apparently plunging to the ground, and elsewhere Ric Griffin breaking down the door of Gaskell’s lab and shocked faces when they see what’s on the other side. It’s going to be a roller-coaster few months on Holby!
