Church pastor reports breaking and entering: Fairview Park Police Blotter

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- Fraud, Lorain Road: On Sept. 4, a resident reported that he was the victim of a fraud totaling over $5,000. He told officers that he received a text, purportedly from his cousin, that he had secured a large grant and, if he wanted a share of it, to deposit money in a certain account.

The resident did so and waited to hear from his "cousin." He got suspicious when the "cousin" texted him later in the day and asked him to deposit almost $5,000 more to "complete the process."

The victim then called his real cousin and found out that he knew nothing about the texts. The victim then realized he had been scammed.

Breaking and entering, Lorain Road: On Sept. 5, the pastor of New Hope Church reported that his office had been broken into by breaking the door handle. A check of the church exterior found that one of the doors had been left unsecured.

Security footage was reviewed, and a man was seen walking around and rummaging through various areas of the church for more than an hour, first being seen around 10:30 p.m. the previous evening.

Petty cash and some candy bars appeared to be the only things missing.

Disturbance, Center Ridge Road: On Sept. 7, an officer on patrol saw a man and a woman arguing in the rear parking lot of Chipotle. He then saw the woman slap the man in the face. He immediately pulled into the lot and separated the two.

The woman exhibited signs of intoxication. It was found that the two had already dealt with Rocky River police a short time earlier, had been advised, and had been dropped off at the RTA transit center.

The 38-year-old Lyndhurst woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and immediately became belligerent, vulgar and verbally abusive.

Petty theft, Lorain Road: On Sept. 9, an employee at Hibachi Steakhouse reported the theft of his Samsung Galaxy S8 phone while working the previous evening. The phone was in an "employee only" area and the employee discovered it missing around 10 p.m. Investigation to continue.
