Community Health & Dental Care Raises Awareness for Prostate Cancer

Pottstown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/11/2017 -- Residents interested in staying on top of their health are getting their facts on prostate cancer from Community Health & Dental Care, one of the leading providers of affordable health care in Pennsylvania.

National Prostate Cancer Awareness Week is September 17th to 24th, and though one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in his life, the disease remains underrepresented in awareness campaigns. Community Health & Dental Care wants to change that and encourage more and more residents to get tested and stay informed about their health.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cancer in men living in the United States behind skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that this year alone, about 161,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed, and about 26,000 deaths will occur as a result of prostate cancer, which is the third leading cause of death amongst men. Close to every one in every 39 American men will die of prostate cancer.

While prostate cancer is a serious disease, most men diagnosed with prostate cancer will live if diagnosed early. Men who are over the age of 50 are recommended to have a screening for prostate cancer at their annual physical or earlier if they have a family history of prostate cancer.

All interested in learning more about prostate cancer or getting screened are encouraged to call Community Health & Dental Care by calling 800-589-6212 or visiting them online at https://ch-dc.org for scheduling and more information.
