Multiple agencies respond to bomb threat and fire in Mena, 1 arrested

Mena Police received a bomb threat to the Mena Post Office early this morning.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to a bomb threat in Mena early Saturday morning. The Mena Police Department received a bomb threat to the Mena Post Office on 400 South Morrow Street around 3:40 a.m.After responding to the call, an officer noticed the PCDC resale store "Just For Kids" near the post office was on fire the front glass door had been shattered. The Mena Fire Department was then called out to the scene. Officers later discovered that the bomb threat and the fire at "Just For Kids" were related, and a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection to the threat. His name has not yet been released. The Mena Fire Department, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the Fort Smith Bomb Fire Department Squad, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. Postal Service all assisted the Mena Police Department with the investigation. The director of the Polk County Developmental Center Angies Graves tells 4029 that a baby bed filled with items for sale and a clothing rack were burned in the fire. Graves says the inside of the store has a lot of smoke damage and the front door needs to be replaced. Graves expects the store to be closed for at least the next three weeks.
