Luke Walton would not have to wait long for a coaching opportunity if the Lakers decide to fire him.
Walton would be the favorite for the Kings job, according to The Athletic. Walton’s position with the Lakers is tenuous at best after former team president Magic Johnson hinted Walton was going to be fired during his own resignation on Tuesday night.
The Kings fired coach Dave Joerger on Thursday morning as general manager Vlade Divac is looking to solidify his power atop the franchise. The Grizzlies (JB Bickerstaff) and Cavaliers (Larry Drew) also moved on from their coaches on Thursday.
Walton has gone 98-148 in his three seasons with the Lakers, but missing the playoffs this season with LeBron James would be his final undoing.
