Officer brakes for 'Peanut' and rescues kitten: Bainbridge Township Police Blotter

BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Animal at large, Franklin Street: While on patrol at 2:09 p.m. July 8, an officer encountered a small kitten named "Peanut" that had ventured onto the road. Its collar had the owner's phone number, but there was no answer. "Peanut" was driven to the police station for safekeeping until the owner responded later in the day and retrieved the pet.

Extra patrol, Aurora Road: Someone called police at 1:18 a.m. July 9 claiming to be a Speedway employee. She stated that she was too scared to be at the station alone. Police responded, and the employee working there said she did not make that phone call.

Fraud, Geauga Lake Road: Someone called a woman at 1:04 p.m. July 9 and asked for her Social Security number in order to send a new card. She gave out the number before realizing the call was a scam. Police verified it with the Social Security office and provided the victim with identity theft forms.

Suspicious, High Point Road: After hearing a strange noise in her garage at 1:04 a.m. July 7, a woman called police. She had seen a strange vehicle in the area earlier. Officers arrived and found a child's toy making noises in the garage. The toy was turned off.

Theft, Market Place Drive: Someone stole a woman's laptop computer July 5 from her parked vehicle while she worked at Walmart. The value was $1,310. The company is checking video footage.

Traffic problem, Craig Drive: A man reported a pre-teen boy riding a dirt bike on the street shortly before 10 a.m. July 5. Officers arrived and advised the boy and his mother to stay off the road with the dirt bike. A short while later, the man called back and said that the mother had called him, swore at him and threatened him. He declined to press charges, but wanted the incident noted.

Citizen dispute, Lost Trail: Police responded five times in two days -- mostly between midnight and the early morning hours of July 8-10 -- to a home where a resident and tenant where having an ongoing dispute. Both parties accused each other of misdeeds. Police are investigating.
