COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater sought to get back on track after losing to Interstate 8 co-leader Jackson Lumen Christi last week, but Pennfield’s offense, particularly in the second half, was too much for the Cardinals to handle as the Panthers picked up the 26-7 win at Cardinal Field. It started off well enough for Coldwater, as they capped off a 10-play, 69-yard drive late in the first quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run for Matt Gipple. Pennfield answered on the ensuing drive, and the two teams took a 7-7 tie into the locker room.
In the second half, it was all Panthers, scoring 19 unanswered points. Sophomore quarterback Ryne Petersen was 5-for-7 passing for 93 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also leading Pennfield’s ground game with 18 carries for 106 yards.
For Coldwater, Matt Gipple had 16 carries for 115 yards and the Cardinals’ lone score. He was our McDonald’s Player of the Game. Griffin Olmstead led the defense with 7 tackles. Coldwater drops to 1-3 overall, 1-2 in the Interstate 8. Pennfield improves to 3-1 overall and is tied with Lumen Christi atop the league standings at 3-0.
