Magical Elves, the powerhouse producing duo of Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz behind some of the biggest reality and non-scripted TV, is in negotiations to direct Paramount’s Katy Perry movie.
Craig Brewer, who directed Footloose for the studio, is coming on board as an exec producer. Brian Grazer and Imagine were previously reported as producing the movie.

The Perry movie will be a 3D concert-documentary movie hybrid that will aim to show Perry’s life on-stage and off-stage and give a fan’s perspective on the pop singer.
Previous online blogger reports stated incorrectly that Nanette Burnstein was directing the movie.
The Elves are huge players in the reality tv sphere. They were producers on Project: Greenlight and created Project Runway. They created Top Chef and now oversee the Chef empire with its many spin-offs. They have two new shows debuting this season, Fashion Star on NBC and Three on CBS.
They made their first foray into features as producers of the Justin Bieber movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. That film, released February 11, 2011, holds the domestic box office record for a concert film with $73 million. (The worldwide record is held by Michael Jackson’s This Is it, which grossed $261.2 million in 2009.)
Bieber was produced on a very quick turnaround schedule in terms of features, but not so for features. The plan is to turnaround the Perry movie, which will be released under Paramount’s low-budget Insurge label, just as fast.
Magical Elves are represented by WME.
