EKU falls on the road at in-state rival Morehead State

Bria Bass scored a team-high nine points and grabbed six rebounds, but Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team lost to Morehead State University, 68-52, Saturday in Morehead.

MSU (19-8, 10-4 OVC) jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, after a basket by McKenzie Calvert with 4:52 remaining in the first quarter, and never looked back.

EKU (2-23, 0-14 OVC) used a 5-0 after Bass knocked down a three pointer to make it 30-21, with 1:30 remaining in the first half. The Eagles responded with eight unanswered of their own after including a three by Allyah Jeune to go ahead 38-21 early in the third quarter.

Abby Wright had eight points, two assists and one rebound for Eastern Kentucky. Shay Solomon and Teri Goodlett each pitched in seven points.

Miranda Crockett led the offense for the Eagles with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Jeune pitched in 13 points off the bench.

EKU shot 36 percent from the field and Morehead State shot 38 percent. EKU was out rebounded 44-38.

Eastern outscored Morehead State 21-16 in the final quarter.

The Colonels return to the court Thursday when they travel to Cookeville to take on Tennessee Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
