MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — It's another happy ending for Moose: After a heartbreaking photo of Moose sitting next to his owner's hospital bed after their passing went viral, Moose went home to a new family.

"Moose has been adopted by a wonderful family who will care for and love him for the rest of his life!" Eleventh Hour Rescue shared on Saturday. Moose's new family opted to stay private.

Moose's roundabout journey to his forever home started at a shelter in rural Georgia in August 2017. After sitting in the kill shelter for months without catching the eye of any adopters, a local volunteer reached out to Morris County-based Eleventh Hour Rescue to find him a family.

Once he made his way north, Moose was placed with a man in New Jersey who loved him dearly, and Moose loved his new home.

Sadly, that happy ending wouldn't last. A year after going home, Moose's new dad passed away suddenly, leaving Moose in need of a second forever home. He was taken back in by Eleventh Hour, who shared his updated story and touching the hearts of potential adopters across North Jersey.

His story was shared on the Eleventh Hour Rescue Facebook page in mid-June, and shared by Patch on June 17. Just five days later, Moose was adopted by his new family.

Although Moose has already gone home, Eleventh Hour Rescue is still looking for homes for other adoptable dogs and cats, some of whom have been fostered by the rescue for a long time. Interested in adding a rescue pet to your family? Visit the Eleventh Hour Rescue website for more information.
