Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming TV series, “For the People,” gets a midseason premiere date on ABC. However, the official release date for the Britne Oldford-starrer has yet to be announced by the network.

For the People” was picked up by the network after ABC announced the cancellation of “The Catch” at the end of Season 2. The new show is set in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, also known as the Mother Court. “For the People” will follow the lives of a group of new lawyers working for both defense and prosecution. They will be handling the most high-stakes and high profile cases in the country. Even though they handle individual cases, their lives are tied together the minute they enter the courtroom.

In the teaser released by ABC, all of the main cast members come together on their first day in Mother Court. A judge gives them a brief lecture and tells them that it is almost always impossible to win against those handling the cases involving the federal government. Each of the new lawyers have a concerned look on their faces, but there are also those who are more than excited to take on the new challenges that their job entails.

Other scenes from the promo show how the new lawyers butt heads with each other. One of the lawyers enters the courtroom and finds out that she has to defend a young man who tried to blow up the Statue of Liberty. “Foster the People” will also feature instances wherein the lawyers’ cases are interchanged. One of the scenes shows an arrogant lawyer saying that he’s ready to go to court. Unfortunately, his case gets handed over to someone else.

“Foster the People,” which has some similarities with “How to Get Away With Murder,” also stars “Mr. Robot” star Ben Rappaport, “American Crime” alum Hope Davis, “Nurse Jackie” star Anna Deavere Smith, “Awkward” alum Wesam Keesh, “Marvel’s Daredevil” star Vondie Curtis-Hall, “Parenthood” alum Lyndon Smith, “Roots” star Rege-Jean Page and “Royal Pains” actress Susannah Flood, according to TV Line.
