New Repertory Theatre presents Heartland, the evocative, existential new drama by Gabriel Jason Dean. Directed by Bridget Kathleen O'Leary, the production runs January 12 - February 9, 2019 in the BlackBox Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA. Tickets are $19-$42 and may be purchased by calling the New Rep Box Office at 617-923-8487 or visiting newrep.org. Student, senior, and group discounts are available.

"Heartland is a timely and poignant examination of America's complicity in the creation of the Taliban," says director Bridget Kathleen O'Leary. "It is a hard look at the consequences of America's actions while at the same time humanizing the people who believed that their contributions had value and were helping to keep us safe at a time when there was so much uncertainty. Playwright Gabriel Jason Dean does an incredible job at finding the heart in his characters while simultaneously asking his audience to see the big picture when it comes to our country's alliances at a moment when so much is at stake."

"Heartland is a resonant, important new work with which we are eager to begin the new year," shares New Rep Artistic Director Jim Petosa. "This piece brings to light the often-ignored, important effects of the U.S. in the Middle East, and takes us on an emotional exploration of culpability, friendship, and forgiveness."

"New Rep is proud to be presenting this National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere," says New Rep Managing Director, Harriet Sheets. "New Rep audiences will be glad to welcome back New Rep veteran Ken Baltin (most recently seen in Kite Runner, Eurydice, and Waiting for Godot), as well as welcoming newcomers Caitlin Nasema Cassidy and Shawn K. Jain to the New Rep stage."

About Heartland When Afghan refugee Nazrullah shows up on the doorstep of Dr. Harold Banks claiming to have known his adopted daughter Getee, the two become unlikely roommates and friends. Getee and Nazrullah's relationship unfolds in a series of dramatized memories that reveal their uniquely human journey while stunning us with a new understanding of America's tragic impact on Jihadism in the Middle East. A poignant new work inspired by true events, Heartland is a stirring emotional journey about love, loss, and understanding.
