Cincinnati ranks 30th of 50 U.S. cities in a first-of-its-kind report from Environmental Entrepreneurs.

Cincinnati ranks among the top 50 metro areas in the U.S. when it comes to clean energy jobs, according to a new report.

The Queen City ranks No. 30 in “Clean Jobs Cities,” a first-of-its-kind report from Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2), a Washington, D.C.-based group of business owners, investors and others who advocate for policies that benefit the environment. “Clean energy” is derived from resources such as geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind.

According to the report, the top 50 metros with clean energy jobs employ more than 1.8 million Americans – more than one of every two clean energy jobs in the U.S. In fact, the top 16 metros account for more than 1.15 million jobs, which outnumber the entire U.S. fossil fuel industry.

Cincinnati is home to 19,692 clean energy jobs, 1,576 renewable energy jobs and 14,211 energy efficiency jobs.

Topping the list was Los Angeles, followed by New York City and Chicago. Other Ohio metros to make the list were Cleveland (No. 28) and Columbus (No. 38).

“Cities are seeing the benefits of shifting to clean energy, with jobs and economic growth,” Bob Keefe, E2 executive director, said in a news release. “These are good jobs in energy efficiency, construction, manufacturing, renewable energy and clean fuels and vehicles. And they shouldn’t be ignored by lawmakers as they’re considering state and federal energy policies.”

In addition to releasing "Clean Jobs Cities," E2 delivered to members of Congress its "Clean Jobs Count" pledge, signed by 25,000 E2 members, supporters and others who want more clean energy jobs and the policies that advance them.
