The City of Spokane recently updated its Rules of the River ordinance, including when people need to wear life jackets.
The changes went into effect in June. According to the municipal code, anyone using a flotation device must wear a personal flotation device (PFD). The ordinance previously applied to boats, kayaks, and canoes.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is permitted to enforce this law and other laws in regards to the recreational use of bodies of water within Spokane City limits.
