British commercial broadcaster ITV has acquired the six-part investigative docuseries Jeremy Wade’s Might Rivers from London’s Icon Films.
The 6 x 60-minute series was originally commissioned by Animal Planet in the U.S. Executive produced by Icon Films’ Harry Marshall, Stephen McQuillan and Stephen Gooder, the program premiered across Discovery’s wildlife network in April.
Jeremy Wade’s Mighty Rivers follows the extreme angler and biologist as he sets out on a globetrotting journey to examine and explore some of Earth’s largest and most important waterways.
The series traces Wade’s journey as he investigates the gravity of each river’s plight in an effort to document the damage. Wade attempts to understand how exploitation and pollution are contributing to the ruin of rivers that were once the lifeblood of communities by trekking to the Amazon (Brazil), the Ganges (India), the Yangtze (China), the Mississippi (U.S.), the Danube (Central and Eastern Europe), and the Zambezi (across Africa).
Meeting the people who live alongside these rivers, Wade gathers intel about their sustainability in hopes of improving the health of these rivers.
“In Jeremy Wade’s Mighty Rivers, Jeremy visits some of the most beautiful and shocking rivers in the world and his take on river health is both salutary and at times uplifting” said McQuillan, head of factual at Icon Films, in a statement.
ITV Global Entertainment is distributing the series in the world outside the U.S. and UK.
