Smallville's Martha Kent is going to take a walk on the dark side as she jumps over to the Marvel TV Universe.

To many, Annette O'Toole's portrayal of Clark Kent's mother in the Superman prequel series was the definitive portrayal of Martha, but the actress will have purely evil motives with a role in Marvel's The Punisher.

O'Toole and former LA Law star Corbin Bernsen have been cast in the second season of the Daredevil spin-off as Anderson and Eliza Schultz, a ruthless, jet-setting couple willing to go outside the law to further their ends.

"We are delighted to have Annette and Corbin join the remarkable talent this season," Marvel Television boss Jeph Loeb said. "Our audience will enjoy them in very unexpected but perfectly cast roles."

The Punisher's second season has another Superman connection. Floriana Lima recently signed up for the Netflix series after wrapping up playing Metropolis cop Maggie Sawyer in Supergirl.

Netflix renewed The Punisher for a second season last December, but producers were talking up their plans for new episodes even before the official recommission.

Chatting about possible new villains for season two, showrunner Steve Lightfoot teased: "There are so many great characters there. It's a very fun sandbox to play in."

Netflix has previously announced that Jon Bernthal will be joined in the second season by returning faces Ben Barnes (Billy Russo), Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani) and Jason R. Moore (Curtis Hoyle).

Marvel's The Punisher season two will stream all of its episodes worldwide on Netflix. The first season is available on Netflix now.
