CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A pilot who planned to fly to Akron survived the crash of an airplane that deployed its parachute and plummeted into a field in Wisconsin.

The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of the downed Cirrus aircraft Wednesday morning in Sand Creek Township, Wisc.

A short time later, the pilot arrived to a local fire department. He said he was the only person aboard the plane at the time and was traveling from Cumberland, Wisc. to Akron.

The plane experienced mechanical issues, causing it to crash in a cornfield and striking an irrigator.

The pilot was not hurt in the crash.

A federal investigator was requested to the scene.
