DUI Checkpoint In Harford County Planned Before 4th Of July Weekend 2017: Police

Maryland State Police from the Bel Air barrack announced an upcoming sobriety checkpoint.

BEL AIR, MD — A sobriety checkpoint is planned in Harford County on Friday, June 30, according to Maryland State Police. Troopers from the Bel Air and JFK barracks as well as officers from the Harford County Sheriff's Office, Aberdeen Police Department and Maryland Transportation Authority will be part of the initiative, police said in a statement.

A location for the checkpoint was not disclosed. Police said the purpose is to take impaired drivers off the road and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, ahead of the Fourth of July weekend.

By law, authorities must announce sobriety checkpoints. A Supreme Court case in 1990 determined citizens' rights against unlawful search and seizure are not violated if checkpoints are publicized in advance.
