'He's really having a tough time': Tracy Morgan 'struggling' through slow recovery after deadly crash on New Jersey Turnpike

Tracy Morgan still has a long recovery ahead following the devastating June 7 accident in New Jersey that claimed the life of his dear friend, James 'Jimmy Mack' McNair.

The former 30 Rock star was released from a rehabilitation centre last month but his progress has been slow, People is reporting.

Morgan, 45, is undergoing physical, occupational and psychological therapy at his home in Cresskill, New Jersey, where he was spotted in a wheelchair looking thin and gaunt in mid-July.

It hasn't been easy for the comedian whose lawyer, New York-based Benedict P. Morelli, confessed to People: 'He's really having a tough time and he's struggling.'

Morgan is dealing with the aftermath of injuries that included trauma to the brain, several face fractures, several cracked ribs and a broken leg.

Morelli told People: 'He's making incremental process, but they'll have to wait another two months before they can assess him cognitively.'

Also plaguing the entertainer is that he's missing his good friend and comedy writer, James 'Jimmy Mack' McNair, 62, who died at the scene of the horrendous crash.

Morgan and six other people were travelling on a limo bus when the vehicle overtuned at about 1AM in Cranbury Township, New Jersey.

Five other vehicles had been involved including an SUV and two tractor trailers.

Morgan was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he spent two weeks before being transferred on June 20 to an inpatient rehabilitation facility.

Friends and family have rallied around the entertainer since the accident, with one of the most touching moments occurring when Jimmy Kimmel voiced a get well message to Morgan at Monday's Emmys.

'Shout out to Tracy Morgan, we'll see you next year, Tracy,' Kimmel said.

Morgan has a one-year-old daughter, Maven, with his fiancée Megan Wollover, and three sons with his former wife Sabrina.
