Study: Connecticut among five worst for foreclosures

Connecticut had the fifth highest rate of home foreclosures in the nation last year, with about 8 of every thousand homes in the state undergoing a foreclosure proceeding.

New Jersey had the worst foreclosure rate in the United States last year, according to Attom Data Solutions, with 1.61 percent of housing units under foreclosure at some point in 2017 compared to 0.78 percent in Connecticut. The next four worst states were Delaware, Maryland and Illinois, with Florida sixth.

The number of foreclosures initiated by lenders nationally was at an all-time low last year, at 383,700 properties, down 20 percent from 2016. As tracked by Attom, U.S. foreclosures peaked in 2009 at more than 2.1 million properties.
