William J. ‘Bill’ McMahon

Oct 4, 2018

William J. “Bill” McMahon, 89, of Warner, NH, formerly of Nashua and Hudson, passed away early Monday morning, October 1, 2018 at Pine Rock Manor in Warner, after a period of declining health.

Born in Nashua on August 11, 1929, he was a son of the late Augustus and Helen McMahon. Educated in local schools, Bill attended the former Sacred Heart School of St. Patrick Church, while also serving as an Altar Boy with his friend Judge Kenneth McLaughlin. He was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1946 where he starred as a member of the NHS Track team. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Radio and Telegraph School, earning his certification as a Radio Technician. An Army veteran, Mr. McMahon served in Japan near the end of World War II and was Honorably Discharged in March of 1948.

Bill had been employed with Sanders Associates, Inc. and their successors for forty years as a Quality Assurance Engineer of the Ocean Systems Division.

A resident of Hudson for a number of years, Bill served on the Hudson Budget Committee; and was a coach and director of the Little League Baseball program. He was actively involved with the New Hampshire Republican Party Election Committee and was a former communicant of St. Kathryn Church, where he served as a Lector.

Earlier in his life, Bill worked at Tulley Buick on Main Street in Nashua and was a Caddy at the Nashua Country Club with his brother, Jack, as well as most of the other boys from the South End. Bill and his longtime friend, Warren Stanley, never missed an opportunity to tear up the dance floor at the former Alpine Grove, leading to a long-lasting relationship with his now predeceased wife, Lorraine Nanette (DeCelle) McMahon, who passed away on March 1, 2015. They shared 63 wonderful years together.

Members of his family include his three children, Kathleen French of Manchester, Shane P. McMahon and his spouse Manon McMahon of Litchfield, and Shaun T. McMahon and his significant other, Patricia Pepin of Dublin, NH; four grandchildren, Kristin and Karrie French, Joshua McMahon and Shaina Conrad; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Kocis widow of John of Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was also predeceased by a brother, John “Jack” McMahon and his wife Muriel; a sister, Julianne McMahon; and a great-granddaughter, Sloane.

Throughout his life, it was important to Bill to provide for his family and those around him. Known to be a fighter both literally and figuratively, it was always, with only the best of intentions at heart. Although he will be missed by his friends and family, they find comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain, and can return to the dance floor again with his “Sweet Lorraine”.
