School Physicals and Immunizations: The Cumberland County Department of Public Health Child Health Clinic at 1235 Ramsey St. provides kindergarten and school physicals, along with Head Start, sports and camp physicals. The clinic is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with extended hours until 7 p.m. on second and fourth Tuesdays and Thursdays. All required vaccines and other recommended vaccinations are available. Crisis Intervention Program: The Salvation Army is accepting applications from families and individuals who are experiencing a cooling-related crisis. Applications may be made at 310 Dick St., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Limited funds are available and will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until they run out or the program ends. 910-483-8119

Precinct Workers Needed: Cumberland County Board of Elections is seeking precinct workers for the Nov. 8 general election. Interested persons must be U.S. citizens, registered to vote in Cumberland County and available for training. Online applications are at electionready.net. Cumberland Soil and Water Conservation District: Rain barrels can be purchased for $40 at the district office at 301 E. Mountain Drive, Suite 229. The office is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. All proceeds from rain barrel sales go toward supporting youth educational programs in Cumberland County. Cash and checks are accepted. School Supplies Drive: The Cumberland County Register of Deeds office is collecting school supplies to make book bags for homeless children. Pencils, pens, notebooks, paper, rulers, glue sticks, tooth brushes and tooth paste are needed. Donated items may be dropped of in Room 114 of the Cumberland County Courthouse at 117 Dick St. Cash and gift cards also accepted. The deadline to donate items is Aug. 1. 910-678-7775

Ray and Joan: The Women’s Giving Circle of Cumberland County in conjunction with the Cumberland County Public Library present two book discussions and a movie that feature the book, "Ray and Joan: The Man Who Made the McDonald’s Fortune and the Woman Who Gave it All Away." A movie, "The Founder," was based on the book. Book discussions are Aug. 8 at Headquarters Library and Aug. 16 at North Regional Branch, both at 6 p.m. The movie will be screened Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. at Headquarters Library. Stedman Summer Blast: Aug. 8, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Ernest Freeman Park, Stedman. Rock the Block: Volunteers age 14 and up of all skill levels are needed for the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity's Rock the Block event in October. Museum of the Cape Fear: An exhibit called "An Unlikely Refugee: The Story of a Python Named George" is on display through Dec. 2. Fairy Godmothers of Fayetteville: Meets second and fourth Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-noon at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Westmont Drive, to knit, crochet and sew items for premature babies at Cape Fear Valley and Womack Army medical centers. Stanton Hospitality House: Canned meats, cereal, Pop-Tarts, plastic and paper items, fruit or pudding cups, coffee, water, crackers, cookies, microwaveable meals and monetary donations are needed. Stanton Hospitality House provides housing for family members of local hospital patients, especially those in ICU, NICU or a treatment center. The Habitat ReStore: 3833 Bragg Blvd., accepts donations of reusable and surplus building materials, furniture, appliances and household items, then sells them to the public, funding the construction of affordable housing in Cumberland County. The CARE Clinic: Free basic health care services to uninsured, low-income adult residents of Cumberland County and surrounding areas. Services include basic medical care, dental extractions and clinic-ordered prescription medications. Clinics are held Tuesdays and Thursdays and the second and fourth Wednesdays after 5 p.m. A diabetic clinic is held Tuesday afternoons. To schedule an appointment, call 910-485-0555.
