Ruth Lane Von Schaaf, 87, widow of Jacob Henry (Jack) Von Schaaf, died on December 21, 2009.

She was born on January 12, 1922, in Chattanooga, Tennessee and raised in the Chattanooga area with her seven brothers and sisters, by parents, Rev. Charles Henry and Edith Lane.

Returning to the Chattanooga area after living in Columbia, S.C., for ten years, she was a resident of East Ridge, Tennessee for 50 years and Martin Boyd Christian Assisted Living Center since May 2009.

Mrs. Von Schaaf was a faithful member of Spring Creek Road Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class having formerly sung in the choir, taught Sunday School and Training Union, and served on various committees and as president of the Women's Missionary Union.

Before retiring she was co-owner and bookkeeper of Modern Welding Supply, Inc. She enjoyed her church and Sunday School class, music and singing, writing and reciting poetry, traveling with her sister Helen and memories of traveling, activities at Martin Boyd, visiting with new and old friends and family, as well as telling others about her children, children-in-law, grandchildren, grandchildren-in-law, and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Von Schaaf was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Rev. Charles and Edith Lane; brothers, Alvin, Frank, and Charles Lane Jr.; and sisters, Lucille Gossett and Anita Norton.

She is survived by her greatly-loved sister and brother, Helen Wilson and Jack (Betty) Lane, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Von Schaaf is survived by her three children and their spouses, Charles Phillip and Pat Von Schaaf of Chattanooga, Dr. Jacquelyn and Rev. David Sandifer of Campbellsville, Ky., and Melissa and Brad Keith of Vancouver, Wa.; grandchildren, Chuck and Rachel Von Schaaf of Sydney, Oh., Stacey (Sandifer) and Jon Buford of Duluth, Ga., Hal and Melissa Sandifer of Murfreesboro, Tn., Phillip and Jessica Sandifer of Smyrna, Ga., and Jake and Martha Keith of Beaverton, Or.; and her great-grandchildren, Charles Phillip (Chase) Von Schaaf III, Carson Von Schaaf, Leigh Anne, Savannah, and Will Buford, and Jack and Joshua Sandifer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24, at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Byers (nephew), the Rev. David Clay, and the Rev. James Julian (pastor) officiating. Special music will be presented by Guy Kirby. Interment will be at Lakewood Memory Gardens South.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 23, from 3-9 p.m. at the East Chapel.

Active pallbearers will be Bruce Baird, Terry Daffron, Jim Gutshall, Newell Keel, John Kirby, and Ronnie Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold McClure, J.T. Vick, Don Stevens, Hoyt Burns, and members of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

Memorial donations may be made to Martin Boyd Christian Home, 6845 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Road.
