Texas animal shelter asks for help after heavy rain floods kennels

The shelter is having to house multiple animals in each kennel, crate and pen after flooding left its outdoor space uninhabitable.

An animal shelter southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth is asking for help after heavy rain throughout the area flooded its kennels.

The water left outdoor kennels uninhabitable at the Erath County Humane Society in Stephensville. So indoors, multiple dogs are packed into each kennel, crate and pen, the shelter wrote on Facebook.

"With continued rain and colder temps in the forecast all week, we are in desperate need of adopters, fosters, or temporary boarding assistance," the shelter wrote.

The shelter is also asking for donations, as it is "extremely low" on dog food and cat litter. Staff requested that anyone wishing to donate food give a gift card or store credit instead, since there's no storage space in the cramped facility.

The shelter shared photos of the flooded, muddy kennels on Facebook.

The cold, rainy weather often brings in stray animals who escape out of fear, staff said in the post, but there won't be any place to house them.

Contact information for the shelter is available on its Facebook page.
